A CALL TO COMMITMENT

Living Stones Series: First Published in All Around Old Bridge Publication – October 2024, Pastor Lloyd Pulley

I recently started a new Midweek Series on the book of Proverbs and I can’t help but look back over my life and recall the many ways its wisdom has been like a father to me. Not having a father to raise me, or a mother for that matter, left me insecure and often hopeless in my adolescence.

Many children today are left without any real guidance at all. Overprotected in the real world, they stay inside being raised by technology. Underprotected in the virtual world, they have become prey to the ideologies brainwashing this generation. The virtual world is an easy escape from the hard work of commitment and relationships in the real world and the social media intended to “connect” us all has done inestimable damage in separating us.

Making commitments is a protection against being taken over by lesser emotions and selfish thoughts – but if the majority of our time is spent online, commitment isn’t necessary. When I come across someone online who becomes hard to deal with, I can just block them and move on to the next person. Real relationships take the hard work which commitment ensures will happen!

Our Creator made us for relationship with Him as well and that too implies commitment. As we believe the gospel – that Jesus’ death demonstrates His love and provides forgiveness – we will learn to regard the Bible as more valuable than our wandering desires and changing feelings.

You are welcome to join us in the book of Proverbs on Wednesday nights in person or online at ccob.org and gain the real guidance necessary for life!
